Historical Display to go up in Dougherty Courthouse

Press Release Date

Another "Foundations of American Law & Government Display" will be hung. This time it will be in the courthouse in Dougherty County in Albany, Georgia. In June of this year, a display was hung in a community center owned by the city of Odum, Ga. Another display was hung in the City Hall of Hartwell, Ga in September. A display in Jonesboro was the third state-law approved display to go up but, the FIRST of its kind to go up in a county courthouse. This display in Albany will be the first to go up in a South Georgia courthouse!

The Doughtery County Commission, led by Chairman Jeff Sinyard, unanimously voted today to display the "Foundations of American Law and Government" display in the Albany-Dougherty Judicial Building. There will be an official dedication service either in January or February in conjunction with a Federal holiday. The display will actually be hung before then, though. This display was purchased and presented on behalf of concerned citizens and members of Calvary Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Putney, and Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany. Chairman Sinyard expressed appreciation from the entire commission for the gift of the display. The entire commission was excited about the gift and has expressed enthusiastic support for having the display hung in the Dougherty Judicial Building.

On July 1, 2006, Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law H.B. 941 http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/fulltext/hb941.htm authorizing local governments to erect historical displays that include a copy of the Ten Commandments. These displays pave the way for communities to further educate their citizens regarding historical facts about our country's founding.

Ten Commandments Georgia congratulates Dougherty County for making this step to take advantage of this new law. County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard and the Board are all to be commended for this bold step in leading out to put these documents up in their courthouse.

These historical documents are being made available through the ministry of Ten Commandments GA, Inc. However, TC-GA has never given or placed displays in any government buildings. We serve as a resource for private citizens, churches, civic clubs, and organizations to purchase these documents and to present them for approval to their local governing boards, commissions, and councils.

TC-GA has beautifully designed, to legal specifications, the nine-piece historical display. You may view these unique designs by logging onto to www.thoushalt.org
